Valentine's Day is approaching us quickly, and I'm sure you've all been checking out great blog posts with DIY Valentine's Day ideas and scoping out Pinterest. But what about a card for that special someone? If you want something special instead of the ordinary cards you buy at your local store, I would definitely suggest checking out this week's featured sellers Etsy shop! Or even if you have a card and just need something fancy to put a gift in, she has gift boxes available too!
Meet Rachael from papercraftersnook!
1) How did you start creating?
Paper has always held a fascination for me. I've been creating ever since I could draw at 5-years-old! :) However, I really started thinking seriously about having my own paper crafts business after having regular crafting/scrapbook meet ups with my friends and family.
2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I enjoy creating something unique either reflecting my personality or that of someone else if it's a custom order.
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
We are so lucky to live in the "internet generation". There is literally inspiration to be found everywhere if you just look for it! Sometimes I'll find inspiration from other artists and crafters on Etsy. Other times it will be on YouTube from a tutorial I watched. And, who can forget Pinterest?! Then, I also draw inspiration from my own life from being a French major in college and studying abroad in France.
4) Tell us about what you sell.
Although I like to try my hand at many different crafts, my heart lies with paper crafts in particular. I sell handmade and custom-designed cards, invitations and boxes. I also create art. My new interest in art is mixed media with a vintage flair!
5) How did your shop get it's name?
I was trying to find a name that would be memorable and have "paper" in it. Since I am a paper crafter, that first part was easy! My husband helped me come up with the "Nook" part.
6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Go with your passion. Your passion for your craft will push you further than anything else. You define your own success. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to make a certain amount of money to be successful. Success is when you meet your self-defined goals.
7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
I'm still a work-in-progress on that front. It's really fluid in my household. Since I have two little boys - one in full-day kindergarten and the other in pre-school only two half-days per week I work around their schedules as much as I can. Lucky for me my boys enjoy being creative. So, a lot of times they will craft when I do. Although my husband's work schedule changes from week to week, he helps watch the boys while I am working on my business. It really helps to have a supportive (and understanding) spouse! Something has to give sometimes and usually that something is housework!
