HI!! I am Kristy, the owner of Cuties for Cuties. I (along with my embroidery machine, Miss Molly) specialize in monogramming and personalized gifts.
1) How did you start creating?
It all started with a pillowcase dress. I was working a beyond-full time job in the cubical world and I went to a Holiday show on my lunch break. I saw the sweetest dresses. I thought about them all afternoon. When I got home, I pulled out and dusted off the machine and slapped one together (yes, slap is the technical term). I took it to work the next day to show to a co-worker and left with 4 orders. Over time, my interest (aka: I had 2 girls and live in the South) changed and embroidery has become a passion.
2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I simply love that embroidery can take a great gift and transform it into a thoughtful and unique one.
3) Where do you find your inspiration?
I live in the South...inspiration is on every corner. Whether a Sunday afternoon bridal tea or a weekend away with The Husband at a quaint Bed & Breakfast, inspiration is in the elegant linens, Sunday's Best, even the local playground.
4) Tell us about what you sell.
I sell items someone would both like to buy as a happy for themselves or give to their family, friends for lifes occasions. Monogrammed cosmetic bags, monogrammed jute totes (a-maz-ing bridal party gift). This season the biggest sellers have been all things preppy! Monogrammed pullovers, long sleeve tee shirts and The Monogram Sweatshirt.
5) How did your shop get it's name?
This is a bit embarrassing but the absolute truth..I knew I wanted to have a website, FB page and Etsy store. Late one night I went to set everything up. At the time I had 2 little Cuties and was expecting my third. Cuties for Cuties seriously just popped in my head out of nowhere. It was available on FB, Etsy, web domain and email so Cuties for Cuties it is. I figured if all were available then it was meant to be.
6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Pictures, Patience and Promote.*You must have good detailed photos to show off your product. *Patience is necessary. Just because you know your product inside out does not mean your client does. If they need to see 15 shades of pink to make the perfect choice..so be it. *Promote: You can't just fill you store and sit back and wait for the sales to come rolling in. (Well, you can but I wouldn't advise it.) Get out there and let people know who you are and what you do!
7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
HAHA!!...HAHAHA!!...I am blessed with the most amazing and understanding husband ever. I care for the little people during the day. When my husband gets in from work it is his turn. He cooks most nights and I work late hours. It may not be ideal, but for this season in my life..it works.
