New Year's Resolutions - January's Progress

1) BE HEALTHIER - This month I worked on skin care, because being healthier most people just think food wise, I'm going overall wise. Dry skin is not healthy skin, so this month I actually splurged and bought the GOOD night face cream that I use to use when I lived with my parents (mainly because my mom bought it for herself and I'd use it lol). and I got a good exfoliating face wash. Within a day, I noticed a difference.. Much smoother skin, and not so dry!

2) BE MORE ORGANIZED -  Well, since it was the first month, I worked on planning out my day planner. Figuring out my to-do lists each day (I'm a list person, otherwise I get side-tracked a lot!) so, on paper - everything is organized. As for implementing it, well.. I'm working on it still. :) Next month will be working on getting a portable file cabinet and keeping everything organized for taxes next year, business documents, etc.

3) HAVE A DATE NIGHT - Well, this didn't happen this month with just Daniel & I; however, we did have a couple dinners out with the kids, which was really nice. And both kids were actually excellent through the entire meal. :)

4) GET OUT OF DEBT - Besides paying our normal amount on things, not much closer on this yet.

5) TAKE MORE PICTURES - I actually have been taking my camera out with me, and have been taking more pictures of the kids around the house too. :) So this month, this was accomplished! :)

6) HELP OTHERS MORE - I can't think of anything I did really out of the norm, a lot of days were cold, so I didn't really leave the house much on those days, and the warmer days when we did go out, our time is limited before we need to be back home due to the kids, so soon I will figure out something to help others more.

7) COUPON MORE - Shopping wise, haven't used many, but I did remember to get my newspapers all but one Sunday. One Sunday it was all cold and the roads didn't look great. Even though the gas station is only about 2 blocks from my house, neither of us wanted to drive there.

Goal: $400 a month
Saved This Month - $0. Yea, we didn't do good on this one. We kind of spent quite a bit this month getting things we've been putting off for a while.

Future Vacation Plans:
*By the end of 2013 I want to have enough money saved up to take my family to Great Wolf Lodge.
*May 30, 2014 is Daniel and I's 5 year anniversary, and we want to go back to Petoskey because we had so much fun there on our honey moon.
*And by the end of 2018 I want to have enough money saved up to take my family to Disney World for a week!

9) POST MORE ON THE BLOG - Before the regular weekly post was only Feature Friday. This month I've also added in Thursday's Treasures, and To Be Loved! (Saturday's post). I have more ideas for in the future though.

10) EXPAND MY BUSINESS - Well, if you read "Where Has The Time Gone?!" you have seen some new things I added to A&K Gift Gallery. Other than that, no big expanding has happened yet.

And there's my update on my Resolution Progress so far! How have you Resolution's been coming along?! :)

Thursday's Treasures! - It's Super Bowl Time!

So, the Super Bowl. It's that time of year where my husband drinks beer, I drink my Diet Pepsi, some football is watched, and there's usually some pretty good food around :) Growing up, in my house with my 3 brothers and my mom and dad, Super Bowl usually consisted of betting a quarter on which team would win, having tacos and nachos, and then banana splits for the half time show. Ah, memories haha. This year, I'm not 100% sure on our plans yet but I'm thinking either place we end up, some tacos and nachos will be had. :) If we go somewhere, I was thinking of making a football cake too. There's a cake recipe I want to try, but I don't want a whole cake in my house because I know I will be the one who eats it. So, we will see for sure! If I make the cake, I will be sure to take pictures to share with you! :)

So, since the Super Bowl is this Sunday, that is what this week's Thursday's Treasures was inspired by. Enjoy!

Where Has The Time Gone?!

So, I've been meaning to update you guys on the happenings in my life, but my days are just too short and my to-do list is just too long! I'm working on it, I'll find a balance eventually!

So, what's new. Elijah is almost 2 months old, Seth will be turning 2 in February! And he's become quite the little chatter box as well. It's cute :)

Flower Die Cut - Set of 10
My husband has had about a week off of work now (since last Wednesday afternoon) so I have had a lot of help with the kids and was able to make some new things! As some of you know, I have another Etsy shop called A&K Gift Gallery. This shop has actually been around longer than Own Something Awesome. It is my everything else shop. So, I decided I wanted to start playing with paper. I don't like to scrapbook though. I don't print off a lot of my pictures, and I get side-tracked too often to actually make up a whole scrapbook. So, I am making cards :)
Mini Cards - Thank You's - Lunchbox Notes - Set of 15
So far I just cut out some die cuts for the scrapbookers out there. But I also have been making some mini cards as well.  They're the perfect size to say a quick Thank You, or I love you, or something short and sweet. Then, when I get some more time, I am going to start actually making some larger sized cards as well! I have slowly been accumulating supplies to do this. (Thank you to everyone who gave me JoAnn's gift cards for Christmas! You know me so well!)

Other than that, nothing has been made for Own Something Awesome lately.. I'm seriously lacking on my scrubbie inventory though, so some netting must be cut, and I should probably start crocheting again!

I've decided the other day, that I have tried to take on so many things on my plate all at once (like usual) and probably right after having a baby, was not the greatest time. But, that's how I operate :) And anyone who really knows me, also knows this is VERY true. So, instead of taking on a million things and never accomplishing many of them, I decided on FOCUS DAYS. Yep. I have a Research Day, Own Something Awesome Day, Blog Day, A&K Gift Gallery day, Networking Day, and then a couple freebie days. Now, not saying on Blog Day I might not work on something for Own Something Awesome or A&K Gift Gallery, but thats my day to focus on any big projects that need to get done - whether it's A&K Gift Gallery day and I need to do inventory, or I need to seriously look at my listings and fix descriptions or tags, things like that.

So, we'll see how this plan works! Because also in my day, I need play time with Seth, and work out time (because that's definitely needed) and house cleaning time, etc. etc. etc. Like I said, my days are too short, and my to-do list too long!

Feature Friday - My Tiny Blooms & Coupon Code!

Are you a daughter who loves to do things with your mom? I know I get a lot of ideas from my mom and she motivates me when I need it as well! Well, this week, our featured shop consists of a mother/daughter team. Meet Debbie & Brittany from My Tiny Blooms

Debbie (mom) does the creating and all the sewing, as well as takes care of any custom orders. Brittany (daughter) helps with the finishing touches as well as all the techie stuff, including monitoring Facebook & communicating with customers.

For the interview we get to hear from Debbie :)

1) How did you start creating?
I began sewing years ago, making clothes and items for my two girls. I recently started back up this year, teaching my oldest daughter (who is 25!)

2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I love turning nothing into something unique and one-of-a-kind!

3) Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere around me

4) Tell us about what you sell.
I sell handmade unique baby blankets, bibs, burp clothes and pacifier leashes. Everything comes in a matching set! I am also working on creating even more matching items, from car seat covers to playmats!

5) How did your shop get it's name?
My daughter and I came up with My Tiny Blooms with the idea that babies are like small buds that bloom into beautiful people!

6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Dont give up! It is easy to get discouraged when things dont sell quickly, but just keep advertising!

7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
Its not too hard for me, both my girls are adults, but I try to schedule certain times of day to devote to my Etsy Shop!

8) Where else can we find you?
Facebook (keep watch for deals!)

And as a special bonus for the readers here she left us a coupon code to use!

Thanks Debbie!

Feature Friday - papercraftersnook & Coupon Code!

Valentine's Day is approaching us quickly, and I'm sure you've all been checking out great blog posts with DIY Valentine's Day ideas and scoping out Pinterest. But what about a card for that special someone? If you want something special instead of the ordinary cards you buy at your local store, I would definitely suggest checking out this week's featured sellers Etsy shop! Or even if you have a card and just need something fancy to put a gift in, she has gift boxes available too!

Meet Rachael from papercraftersnook

1) How did you start creating?
Paper has always held a fascination for me. I've been creating ever since I could draw at 5-years-old! :) However, I really started thinking seriously about having my own paper crafts business after having regular crafting/scrapbook meet ups with my friends and family.

2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I enjoy creating something unique either reflecting my personality or that of someone else if it's a custom order.

3) Where do you find your inspiration?
We are so lucky to live in the "internet generation". There is literally inspiration to be found everywhere if you just look for it! Sometimes I'll find inspiration from other artists and crafters on Etsy. Other times it will be on YouTube from a tutorial I watched. And, who can forget Pinterest?! Then, I also draw inspiration from my own life from being a French major in college and studying abroad in France.

4) Tell us about what you sell.
Although I like to try my hand at many different crafts, my heart lies with paper crafts in particular. I sell handmade and custom-designed cards, invitations and boxes. I also create art. My new interest in art is mixed media with a vintage flair!

5) How did your shop get it's name?
I was trying to find a name that would be memorable and have "paper" in it. Since I am a paper crafter, that first part was easy! My husband helped me come up with the "Nook" part.

6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Go with your passion. Your passion for your craft will push you further than anything else. You define your own success. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to make a certain amount of money to be successful. Success is when you meet your self-defined goals.

7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
I'm still a work-in-progress on that front. It's really fluid in my household. Since I have two little boys - one in full-day kindergarten and the other in pre-school only two half-days per week I work around their schedules as much as I can. Lucky for me my boys enjoy being creative. So, a lot of times they will craft when I do. Although my husband's work schedule changes from week to week, he helps watch the boys while I am working on my business. It really helps to have a supportive (and understanding) spouse! Something has to give sometimes and usually that something is housework!

8) Where else can we find you?
You can find me on my website at
I'm also on Facebook & Twitter
My blog is

Feature Friday - MyLilSweetieBoutique & Coupon Code!

It's Feature Friday Again and if you have a little girl at home, you'll want to check this shop out! She has some adorable pieces in her shop!

Meet Aubries Mommy (Michelle) from MyLilSweetieBoutique

1) How did you start creating?
Once I knew I was having a girl I went to every craft show around town to find the perfect accessories for my daughter. It was so hard to find something I loved so I started making her own hair accessories. Everywhere I went people were asking where did I get that headband? After I told them I made them I then was asked to make some.

2) What is your favorite thing about creating?
I have always wanted to find something I was passionate about. I was always a fan of handmade and am a huge craft show junkie for that! Once I started making them, I became so enthusiastic about them and realized I had found my niche! I truly love making my items and find it rewarding in how creative I can be!

3) Where do you find your inspiration?
My main inspiration is my daughter! I would take one of her outfits and make something special to match! I am also inspired by fabrics and/or colors I like.

4) Tell us about what you sell.
I sell headbands, hair clips, and photo prop accessories

5) How did your shop get it's name?
After trying to find a name that wasn't already in use, I wanted to incorporate my daughter somehow so I made it My Lil Sweetie Boutique. She's my Lil sweetie and I want my customers to know I make each item as if it was for my Lil sweetie

6) Do you have any advice for other sellers?
My advice would be to do something you love! You will never work and the rewards are endless.

7) How do you balance your Etsy shop, your children, and your everyday schedule?
I try to spend my days with my daughter and as soon as she is in bed or napping, I am in my workspace filling orders. I am happy to have my husband help out by watching our daughter when I have a lot to make and cannot finish at night, he also helps taking them to the post office for me.

8) Where else can we find you?

And as a special bonus for the readers here she left us a coupon code to use!

blog15 for 15% off your order :)

Thanks Michelle!

New Year, New You! Hello 2013!

So, I believe you can only have so many years in between good ones. Apart from events with my children (Seth born 2011, Elijah born 2012) - 2011 was a horrible year, and 2012 just seemed mediocre. I'm bound and determined 2013 is going to be a great year! Hence the title - New Year, New You! I'm going to be happier, get skinnier, and be more successful! I've already started setting up my goals for being more successful. And every day I'm going to remember - even if everything didn't get done that day, as long as my family is happy when we all go to sleep at night, it was still a good day! Now, on to the New Year's Resolutions!! (There's quite a few)
